Montana culture has been built around guns and gun safety. I Remember as a young boy me and my brothers would put our guns on our backs, hop on our bikes, and ride up into a spot in the mountains that was filled with ground squirrels. We would fill our day by catching fish from the creek with homemade flies and shooting gophers for hours in the summer. Many of the locals filled their summers this way.

It is important to teach our children a healthy respect for firearms. While Hunting with my 4 year old son, Hoss, a Grouse came into our line of fire. I communicated to him the importance of basic gun safety like never to take a gun off safety until you are ready to fire. I shot the grouse with my shotgun as he pulled the trigger on his fake gun. Though I delivered the final blow, a big smile came across his face as he thought he got it all by himself. This allows him to learn and experience a part of our culture that few others such as Alaska and Idaho understand. Most importantly, I can protect and bond with my son while teaching him how to handle a firearm.
